Hi there! My name is Stu and I’m a professional guitar player and music tutor. I’ve been playing for over 20 years and teaching guitar for more then 10 years.
I started out playing rock, pop and country and I was more or less self taught for the first 5 or more years. That was hard because I didn’t have the resources that are available today, but I learned a lot.
Eventually I used what money I could come up with to get some lessons which helped me further my knowledge and increase my capabilities.
I went on to study classical guitar and composition whilst at school and then continued on to university where I studied classical guitar, composition, and finally jazz guitar and improvisation.
After 5 years at uni I finished my studies and have been teaching and playing professionally since. I’ve played in many rock bands, jazz groups, musical theatre productions and with symphony orchestras. I’ve also done some session work, performed with some of the greatest rock and jazz musicians in Australia and done countless other gigs!
I’ve found that I love playing many styles of music. My main focus really is the creative aspect of guitar playing and often I develop that through studying improvisation and writing music. I’ve worked hard at learning to play jazz over the last 10 years and I feel I have become a competent improviser and have much knowledge and experiences to pass on. I worked hard on all facets of guitar playing and improvisation from technique to tone and other music elements such as groove and rhythm.
At the end of the day though, I just like playing music whether its rock, jazz, blues, classical, pop or whatever. My students often ask me what my favourite song is to which I typically respond ‘the one I’m playing right now!’
So come join me, have some fun and play some cool music. I’m still learning everyday and every musical experience or moment spent playing guitar opens up even more possibilities and provides a never ending source of learning and inspiration. I’m still a student of music myself I’m certain that I always will be, forever exploring and discovering new things.
I put this site together so I could help others who want to learn guitar but to also feature some of the things I’m working on and projects I’m involved in.

All the best,
